2025 Lock It Up Campaign Kicks Off

The Lock It Up campaign has partnered with local community agencies to distribute safe storage locking bag to all three counties.

The Branch-Hillsdale-St. Joseph Community Health Agency is kicking off their 2025 Lock It Up campaign. The Lock It Up campaign has partnered with local community agencies to distribute safe storage locking bag to all three counties. Residents can request a safe storage locking bag by visiting any Branch-Hillsdale-St. Joseph Community Health Agency office, or the following agencies, while supplies last:

Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) offices in all three counties

Branch County

 Hillsdale County

St. Joseph County

“We are pleased to have again received grant funding from the Marihuana Operation and Oversight Grant to support the Lock It Up campaign. These dollars are provided based on medical marijuana cards issued in each county,” said Rebecca Burns, Health Officer. “Marijuana and products with THC are widely available in the jurisdiction. We encourage residents to safely store your medications and marijuana products away from pets and children. Edibles can be attractive to children, and they have no fear since they look like snacks or any other gummy.”

In 2024, the Michigan Poison Control Center received reports of 387 children aged 5 and under exposed to THC. There are likely more cases of exposure that have not been reported. State regulations require the marijuana industry to use child-resistant packaging and prohibit the sale of edibles that look like candy, but there are unregulated, unlicensed products available that are packaged like popular candies. Parents are encouraged to be aware and watchful for product packaging that could entice a child to ingest edibles or gummies containing THC.
