Vaccinate to Protect Yourself from the Flu

Wednesday October 20, 2021

CDC recommends a yearly flu vaccine as the first and most important step in protecting against flu viruses.

Getting a flu vaccine during 2021-2022 will be more important than ever.  Flu vaccines will not prevent COVID-19, but they will reduce the burden of flu illnesses, hospitalizations and deaths on a health care system caring for people with COVID-19.  Residents are encouraged to consider getting their COVID-19 vaccine and flu shot.

“October and November are good times to get vaccinated. However, as long as flu viruses are circulating, vaccination should continue, even in January or later.  Everyone aged 6 months and up is recommended to receive a flu shot and we encourage residents to get their vaccination as soon as possible,” says Kali Nichols, Director of Personal Health & Disease Prevention. “ Flu shots are available not only at our agency offices, but at your physician’s office and pharmacies throughout the three counties.”

In addition to the vaccine, stopping the spread of germs is important for many reasons, prevention of flu, COVID-19, and the common cold are just three examples. Follow these few tips from the CDC to keep germs at bay:
