Children's Special Health Care
The Children's Special Health
Care Services (CSHCS) program enrolls persons,
newborn to 21 years of age, who have a
qualifying medical diagnosis which is chronic,
severe, and requires treatment by a specialist.
Clients with diagnoses of cystic fibrosis and
some blood clotting disorders are eligible to be
enrolled for life. Over 2700 medical diagnoses
are eligible for CSHCS coverage.
Once enrolled, the program
provides financial and other support services to
assist families in the care of their child. Care
coordination services are available to enrolled
families, as well as numerous other support and
referral services through local and state
programs.
This is a state program
that offers services locally in each county in
Michigan. Families are sent an application after
their child is determined eligible through
review of medical reports from a medical
specialist. Assistance is available through
the local office for locating and paying for an
evaluation by a pediatric medical specialist for
the purpose of determining an eligible
diagnosis.
