National Nutrition Month - Kitchen Safety

You know it’s smart to wash your hands before eating —but many people aren't aware of other common kitchen mistakes that can cause illness.

The Branch-Hillsdale-St. Joseph Community Health Agency encourages everyone to practice food safety before, during and after preparing your meals. “The CDC estimates that almost 5.5 million people were ill because of Norovirus last year, and over 1 million people fell ill to Salmonella,” says Paul Andriacchi, Director of Environmental Health. “Taking extra precautions in the kitchen can help reduce those numbers and keep your family healthy.” Follow the recommendations below to keep foodborne pathogens at bay during National Nutrition Month and all year long.
