Communicable diseases are those
which can be easily transmitted from one person to
another. Although many communicable diseases such
as measles and polio are rarely seen today because
of successful childhood vaccination programs, many
communicable diseases still exist.
Communicable Disease section of
the Branch-Hillsdale-St. Joseph Community Health
Agency is responsible for the identification,
education, treatment and follow-up of diseases
such as:
Preventing the Spread of Communicable Disease
Information
is available for all incidence of reportable
diseases as well as other selected
statistical information for the tri-county
area.
The staff can also provide
information on communicable disease prevention
when traveling abroad.

Communicable Disease Reporting Requirements
The Michigan Communicable
Disease Rules of Public Acts of 1978, as amended
in 1983, requires that communicable disease
follow-up be the responsibility of the local
health department. The mission of the Communicable
Disease staff will be to insure the citizens of
Branch-Hillsdale-St. Joseph area have prevention,
protection and health promotion related to the
infectious diseases listed in the public health
Code. The Communicable Disease Coordinators are
responsible for surveillance and prevention by the
review and investigation of all related issues,
trends, data and mandates.
